This research aimed to describe the perceptions of empowerment among women belonging to a Cultural Center in El Agustino, Lima, Peru. A qualitative methodology with a phenomenological-hermeneutical approach was adopted, using semi-structured interviews with seven women participants of the Waytay Cultural Center. The results show that community art experiences (theater, music, street parades) at the Center are highly meaningful: they help women recognize their abilities and achievements, foster the creation of meaningful bonds that create a safe and familiar space, and enable the formation of networks that empower them to take the lead and make decisions in various spaces, including cultural groups and their own neighborhoods or contexts. As a consequence, these experiences foster a new way of seeing and acting on reality through questioning and reflection, as their community-based artistic practice aligns with social and political objectives.
