Extensive Reading is a practice that has received great attention in the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) community, whether it would be as a second or foreign language. This is, partially, thanks to the benefits that its theory postulates, which would be, in synthesis, giving an opportunity for English learners to develop their language skills through reading for pleasure. This one, as many English teaching practices, its executed in different geographical areas and contexts, the South American one among them. Nevertheless, theoretical research about extensive reading in South America is short, which indirectly limits a wider understanding and possible realization of this beneficial practice. This present article pretends to generate an opportunity for change to this situation. To accomplish it, four main sources had been recovered, which check with having been elaborated by south American authors, and with presenting extensive reading theory as main topic. After this, a bibliometric analysis was done out of them. This is how, this study presents also, the results of the mentioned process, just like the author thoughts around them.
