This study analyzed the sociocultural impact of tourism during Holy Week in Ayacucho, focusing on the lifestyle and culture of the local community. Using a mixed-methods approach, 276 surveys were conducted to residents, 117 to visitors, and 8 in-depth interviews were carried out to public officials and cultural experts. The findings reveal a clear duality: over 90% of surveyed residents view the event positively due to its economic benefits, while experts warn of increasing commercialization, where the original religious and cultural meaning is being displaced by recreational and commercial purposes—driven largely by a younger tourist profile. Although the community perceives negative effects such as disorder and overcrowding as temporary and tolerable, this acceptance may contribute to gradual cultural erosion. The study concludes that Ayacucho’s Holy Week faces a tension between economic development and cultural sustainability. While broad social acceptance is fueled by economic gains, weak management threatens the authenticity of the event, making the implementation of a more balanced and sustainable approach essential.
