The purpose of this study is to explore the personal identity of doctors who work in the emergency area in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, seeking to reflect on the particular discourses of doctors, considering their perceptions and experiences. A qualitative methodology with a phenomenological-hermeneutic design was used, which allowed deepening the narratives and positioning the subject as the central axis within the experience. 10 interviews were conducted with male (8) and female (2) doctors, specialists between the ages of 38 and 52 who work in a hospital in Lima in the emergency service who care for patients with COVID-19. The findings reveal that medical participants self-identify as capable, empathetic, diligent, and responsible when treating another human being. In addition, it was found that the participants recognized a certain reinforcement in their professional identity, based on their extreme experience in the pandemic. In addition to this, the results show that the extreme situations of having faced a pandemic in a developing country have generated strong repercussions at the level of mental health where many of them still have to deal with.
