The main purpose of this dissertation is to analyse the John Duns Scotus´s theory of individuation. We sustain, according to Doctor Subtibilis, that all substances are affected by on individuating principle, whose nature is abstract and formal, mixed with the common nature, ontologically neutral, contracting towards its real existence. This individuating principle, mostly known as haecceitas posseses substantial criterion, but it is neither form nor matter, although it´s closely related to form. Thus, the haecceitas or individuating principle is the ultimate reality of a form. To reach this statemen we have analysed the concepts of principle and individual; we have then studied the theory of univocity of Scotist being in order to comprehend subsequently how the substances obtain the individuality from that principle. We add the analysis between the formal distinction and the modal distinction as key components, finally, the scotist doctrine of individuation.
