Resumen
¿Quién soy yo? ¿Quién puedo llegar a ser? son preguntas que nos interrogan respecto a nuestra identidad. Nos las hacemos a nosotros mismos o se las formulamos a las personas que consideramos más significativas en nuestra vida. Para algunos, ensayar una respuesta implica detenerse a pensar por un momento a fin de evaluar el correcto orden de las cosas que identifican como valiosas y que los definen como personas auténticas. Para otros, el intento de articular una respuesta puede generarles angustia, pues los enfrenta a un profundo vacío de sentido, producto de la caída de los ideales y grandes relatos. En ese sentido, dado que la identidad presupone siempre una ética y, por lo tanto, una explicación acerca de nuestra existencia en el mundo, la identidad como problema propio de la época moderna ha sido materia de discusión y reflexión filosófica.
En esta línea de pensamiento, el filósofo canadiense Charles Taylor ha demostrado a lo largo de su obra un inigualable interés por el proceso de construcción de la identidad moderna, dedicando su actividad filosófica a la reflexión acerca de los fundamentos de la identidad. Su filosofía explora las raíces cognoscitivas, éticas, políticas e históricas de este problema. A partir de este examen, plantea una propuesta filosófica que revisa críticamente los presupuestos epistemológicos de la modernidad y desarrolla un modelo de construcción de la identidad en el que la agencia encarnada se establece como eje central. Esta propuesta, de clara inspiración fenomenológica, pretende superar el enfoque epistemológico y así recuperar la conexión entre el agente y el mundo. El propósito de la presente investigación es discutir el vínculo entre la fenomenología y la ética implícita en la idea de agencia encarnada en el pensamiento de Charles Taylor.
Who am I? Who can I become? Those are questions with which we are questioning our identity. We ask them to ourselves, or we ask the people we consider most important. For some, rehearsing an answer means stopping for a moment to think to evaluate the correct order of things that they consider most important and that define them as authentic people. For others, the attempt to articulate a response can generate anguish as it confronts them with a deep void of meaning resulting from the fall of ideals and great stories. Hence, identity as a problem inherent to modern times has been the subject of philosophical discussion and reflection, since identity always presupposes an ethic and, therefore, an explanation of our existence in the world. In this reflection, the philosopher Charles Taylor has shown throughout his work an unequaled interest in the process of construction of modern identity, dedicating his philosophical activity to reflecting on the foundations of identity. His philosophy explores the epistemological, ethical, political and historical roots of the problem. From this, he develops a philosophical proposal that critically reviews the epistemological assumptions of modernity and proposes a model for the construction of identity in which embodied agency is established as the central axis. This proposal, with a clear phenomenological stamp, aims to overcome epistemology and recover the connection between the agent and the world. In this sense, the purpose of this research is to explore the connection between phenomenology and the ethics implicit in the idea of embodied agency in the thought of Charles Taylor.
